Is it possible to move rather than copy with the mouse
To repeat the title more clearly, if I drag and drop a file from the desktop to a folder, say home, on the desktop, it copies the file. I would rather move it there (or copy and delete the original automatically, which is the same I guess). Is this possible?
More generally, if I want to change GUI options, is there any general way of doing it? I know how make aliases start at boot for the command, and conceptually it seems similar, but I imagine it may not be as easy to implement.

Press shift during the operation.
Re: Is it possible to move rather than copy with the mouse
By default a file is moved when drag/dropping between folders in the same
drive partition.
When drag/dropping between folders on different drive partitions the default is
to copy.
- To force the file to be moved, hold down the Shift key while dragging.
- To force the file to be copied, hold down the Ctrl key while dragging.
- To create a link to the file, hold down the Ctrl+shft keys while dragging.
- To get a dialogue popup to choose whether to move, copy or link drag and drop with the middle mouse button.
