Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
I have this in file:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/hdb3

# /dev/hdb5

/dev/hda /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
And it doesn't even load a single NTFS Partition.

<whimper>
I rebooted and my sata_promise driver had vanished... /sigh/ I have no idea why it suddenly decided to disappear now. Anyway...
Later:](*,) I must have removed it when clearing up from an earlier aborted attempt at installing the ft3xx driver. A quick reinstall of the appropriate package and I'm up and running again.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
i got this:
Failed to mount '/dev/hdb5': Operation not supported
Mount is denied because the NTFS journal file is unclean. Choices are:
A) Shutdown Windows properly.
B) Click the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the Windows taskbar
notification area before disconnecting the device.
C) Use 'Eject' from Windows Explorer to safely remove the device.
D) If you ran chkdsk previously then boot Windows again which will
automatically initialize the journal.
E) Run 'ntfsfix' on Linux which will reset the NTFS journal.
F) Mount the volume read-only by using the 'ro' mount option.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
Ok, so just reboot on windows, and reboot just after on linux, that should fix it.

i don't have WINDOWS.
[edit]:
i am okay like this, for the time being just tell me how to show them as read enabled atleast :(

Ok, so just follow one of the option provide when you don't have windows.
Code:
E) Run 'ntfsfix' on Linux which will reset the NTFS journal.
Run ntfsfix on each partition. You will probably have to mount them with a force option.
Code:
F) Mount the volume read-only by using the 'ro' mount option.
Add an 'ro' option like that :
Code:
UUID=F884C98A84C94C36 /media/hdb8 ntfs-3g defaults,ro,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0
Just a question, if you don't have windows, why do you use ntfs ?
Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
how do i run ntfsfix?
[edit]:
coz i can't convert from NTFS to FAT, more then 100 GB data in compressed NTFS drives...
And by the way is there something like remote assistance in Ubuntu like in Windows?
Is there anyother simple and easy to understand method? If no then tell me how to convert 100GB Compressed NTFS files with no risk of data loss into FAT. [don't ever tell me using Norton Partition Magic]
Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)
ntfsfix is in the ntfsprogs package.
Just a reminder. You can't write on compressed NTFS with this driver, but you can read to it.
If it's the case, i recommand you to use the ro option.
