What Was My Previous OS Version?
A couple days ago I was prompted to upgrade my OS to 14.04 LTS so I went with it. Unfortunately it killed my machine, its slow as hell now and my laptop just cant handle it. I suppose the only fix is a fresh install which is fine. I have no idea what my previous version was, it ran really well. Is there somewhere on my machine that will tell me?
Re: What Was My Previous OS Version?
It was probably 13.10, but it doesn't matter much because only 12.04 and 14.04 are supported for a long enough period of time ATM to be viable options:

So you could try and solve the issues you're having with 14.04 or do a fresh installation of Precise. If you choose to do a fresh installation of Precise you'll likely want to use the archived 12.04.1 images from here:
http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04.1/
The reasoning for that is due to the LTS hardware enablement policies:

Re: What Was My Previous OS Version?
I found the disk, I had 10.04. I've been limping along all these months with 14.04 on my netbook, a little sluggish but doable. I just found out about Xubuntu which is a light weight Ubuntu for older machines, I think I will put this on my laptop, although I did see some versions of Ubuntu for netbooks I guess I should check that out too. I did try Xubuntu on a old desktop yesterday and it seems to be running pretty well.
