Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
Ok i've managed to install beryl but i'am still having problems.
When I boot into XGL I cant do anything. Both of the panels are locked in place, I cant access anything on the screen etc. I can move my mouse and everything, but nothing will open. Basically a freeze.
What do I do about this?
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
I have a patched version of Xgl that does not crash like this (this is an fglrx bug):

Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
Regarding wobbly windows, see the bottom of the howto.
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
I've tried all your tweaks and nothing.
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
the bottom of the howto says that you can't use wobbly windows b/c it crashes :D
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
Ok I've installed the non opengl patch still doesnt work. I just get the panels and some checkered white and black screen with an x as my cursor.
How do I install the opengl patch if I cant get into Xgl?
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
The howto was pretty successful for me, on a Shuttle XPC SN45G with an ATi 9550 card, on Edgy. The only problem I have is that when I CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE out of my XGL session, and then try to log in in a normal Gnome session, I just get a wallpaper screen and the login sound. I do not see the Ubuntu load up panel and icons, nor do my panel app panels come up. Have to CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE again and then reboot to get back to a normal (non XGL) session. Any clues? This didn't happen under dapper on the same machine.
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
My login screen gets jammed up too. It does this on my desktop which has a non-mobility card and no XGL. The only similarity is that they both use the fglrx driver, which is what I think is causing the loading hang.
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
david@desktop:~$ sudo cp /lib/modules/`uname -r`/volatile/fglrx.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc/fglrx.ko
cp: cannot create regular file `/lib/modules/2.6.17-11-generic/misc/fglrx.ko': No such file or directory
Re: Howto: ATI Mobility Beryl/XGL FGLRX in Edgy
you may need to create the misc directory:
sudo mkdir /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc
