gnome-terminal profiles don't save

Hi all...

I clean installed 12.10 and had profiles set up in my terminal. After updating with the software updater, my profiles are gone from the terminal menu and new profiles won't save and survive a reboot.

Using gconf-editor I notice that if I create a new profile, it will be shown (as Profile1 or something like that) but not visible in the terminal menu. In gconf-editor if you click on any of the keys of the new profile it will say "This key has no schema".

I'm tearing my hair out. I have to administer a lot of boxes, and the ability to quickly add tabbed sessions is crucial for me.

Help! Any insights?
