It is an interesting thread.
In my province, the single largest aboriginal language is Cree. It has 7-9 dialects, depending on the source information. When working in northern Saskatchewan, my aboriginal secretary would only speak Cree to me, though she spoke and wrote English fluently, as she saw it as her duty to teach me the language. Fun times. :)
