This patch isn't doing it for me this time. Anyone else have success with the patch using 2.6.35-28?
Thanks

I made it work on 2.6.35-28. After installing linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.35-28-generic with dependencies it begun working, for the first time since 2.6.35-25 kernel.
Confirmed.
Here is what I did. Steps 1 and 2 are necessary to revert the patched module
- Remove custom options for snd-hda-intel module
Edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf or /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and remove line
Code:options snd-hda-intel model=hp-laptop
- Restore original kernel (get rid of the patch)
Code:sudo aptitude reinstall linux-image-2.6.35-28-generic
- Install linux-alsa-driver-modules
Code:sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.35-28-generic
- Restart
Not sure if this is useful to many people yet, but might be in the future. Also, for me this was done on Arch Linux not Ubuntu, but I imagine that it should work for any distro.
On my K52J using kernel 2.6.37 I couldn't get both the microphone working as well as the headphone jack detection. If I added 'options snd-hda-intel model=hp-laptop' the jack detection would work but not my internal mic and if I removed the line vice versa.
In the latest stable kernel from kernel.org ( 2.6.38 ) there seems to be a new 'asus' snd-hda-intel option. I compiled 2.6.38 and added the line to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file:
options snd-hda-intel model=asus
For me this made everything work nicely. As 11.04 is (I'm guessing) going to have kernel 2.6.38 this might be useful for others.
Thank you krzysiekb and 542. I followed the steps provided by krzysiekb and the internal mic didn't work. However, I tried the fix mentioned by 542 and it all appears to be working.
Follow the steps exactly as outlined by krzysiekb then do the following:
Edit /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and change
toCode:options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad
Then reload alsaCode:options snd-hda-intel model=asus
This worked for me (A52F - Meerkat - 2.6.35-28 - 64bit). Thanks to those who showed us what to do.Code:sudo alsa force-reload
Sound, including microphone is working beautifully out of the box on 11.04 Alpha3.
...but the webcam fix on page one of this thread no longer works... my image is upside down again.
Arghhh.... :(
Any ideas?
I am using beta 1 (11.04) and everything seems to work (out of the box!!!), webcam, mic, and most special keys (Fn)--:) the only one that does not work out of the box is the track pad on-off Fn combo.
Its awesome the progress being made. Anyway, i'm out. Just couldn't stand not having nvidia working. I love ubuntu and all...but, i spent some money on this laptop, and right now only windows 7 gives me the full potential of it. I'm not turning my back on linux. Just until nvidia and the optimus technology starts working :)
If you don't care about any game in the world, then intel its cool for compiz and such. But it's really a pain for gaming.
I'm following the news about hybrid graphics on linux. And as soon as they got it working, i'll be back. good luck gentlemen
Hey guys,
i've already tried 11.04 - 64 Bit on A52F.
Fn-Shortcuts worked out-of-the-box,
microphone problem was fixed with replacing patched-conexant-driver-kernel-2.6.35-27
but what won't work is webcam.
with lsusb i got:
That means to me that it doesn't appear at all?!Code:Bus 002 Device 007: ID 0bb4:0ffe High Tech Computer Corp.

Does anyone have a fix for that problem?
Bye, Sven
Has anyone made any progress with the Nvidia card yet? It is the only thing stopping me from switching my notebook to Ubuntu :( I use Ubuntu on my desktop and love every minute of it. Even though I messed up my login screen, but it is still usable, I'll fix it when 11.04 is out of beta.
Well I lied, I have a graphics class that requires Photoshop that is stopping me form switching to Ubuntu also. It will be my last graphics class, so the only classes I will have left are programming classes :) which I love.
