Thanks for that! Can others confirm? Could someone investigate whether this needs to be updated on all machines, or just the server? Sorry, but there's been a family emergency. I'm away from home for the next week.

I've been trying to use apt-cacher today on Lucid before and after updates, but no luck. I tried apt-cacher-ng - almost identical installation/setup and works perfectly.
Cheers
Matt
This hasn't worked for me for some time on Lucid (if at all).
I tried zzztownsend's suggestion and can confirm that works.
Just uninstall apt-cacher on the server, and install apt-cacher-ng in its place - all other settings remain the same.
I upgraded my apt-cacher machine a couple months ago (at most) from Xubuntu v8.04LTS to v10.04LTS.
For at LEAST the last couple of weeks each time cron.daily runs the cleanup (apt-cacher-cleanup.pl) it appears to be going into a loop. I THINK it's doing it because I have user and group in the .conf file set to root (as it's been since 4/2008). Those of you running Lucid might want to run TOP or "ps aux | grep apt-cacher" to see if your cleanup has been running for days/weeks/months. See bug #622161 in launchpad for more detail.
I would like to import the CD caches. Is it possible? If yes? How to do it?
