Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here
Greetings all,
Even though I have used these forums for a number of years for information I have never posted :(
New years resolutions come into play and I'm here to help as much as possible.
I have been using Ubuntu since warty at work and at home and have since converted numerous people to this great operating system.
Hope to speak to some of you on the forums soon!
You can also find me on the ubuntu-uk IRC Channel under the same nick.

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here
Hey, I'm John.
A mate recommended me here. I've had Ubuntu 11.10 as a dual boot with Windows 7, for about a month. I previously had Wubi, but I found it was slow, and froze without fail after about 20 minutes.
I hope that I can learn alot about Ubuntu from these forums, and may be able to help others, once I'm a bit more knowledgable.:D
Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here
Hi all, I'm not an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER, so i think i can write down here... :)
My presentation:
I'm a java/c# desktop and web developer, I've used linux (ubuntu) for a while but my master os is Windows (nobody is perfect).
Anyway I'm frustrating becouse I like even mode linux, but I feel confused when i try to improve my knowledge, and when i have to decide which distro and GUI interface is better to use.
For that reason I'm asking here some help to understand, first of all about GUI environment (yes mates I use GUI and I think that GUIs are not evil, are usefull, candy and often faster), those are my questions:
a) I read about XORG X11 GDM etc.. what is it? Which relation joins those with Gnome kde and others!?
b) Why to run manually the GUIs sometime i've to use start X start GMD or similar?
I would appriciate also a link to a clear guide o similar that explain what those compenents are and how they works.
Thanks all.
M

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here
Hey guys! I joined like, forever and ever ago. Never posted or anything, that's just sad...
Since I finally got around to reinstalling and rediscovering the joy that is Ubuntu, I thought I had best return and make good use of this account.
So, how is everyone today?
