11.04 wireless keeps dropping, Intel 6205
Hi all,
Weird problem. Every now and then, my wireless connection just stops working. The network manager applet says I'm connected, but nothing works. I can fix the problem if I click the applet and reconnect to the network I'm on, but the problem always comes back.
This is very irritating and I've done a few things to try to fix it. First, I disabled power management for wlan0, which seems to have helped a bit, but the problem still exists. Secondly, I've tried the compat-wireless drivers and they don't seem to fix the problem.
Right now, I'm back to the stock driver. I am not sure what kind of information or logs I can post to help you guys diagnose the problem. However, I will say that at home, I have two APs set up with the same SSID (one is a repeater), so that might cause the problem? I haven't really used my laptop for long periods of time outside of my house yet, but I have noticed the problem in other places as well.
Please let me know what kind of information I could provide to help fix the problem. Here's my lspci and lsmod:

Re: 11.04 wireless keeps dropping, Intel 6205
Re: 11.04 wireless keeps dropping, Intel 6205
As strong as your wireless AP is I would turn that repeater off and see if it stabilized my wireless. Consider the strengths getting close to the same and network manager thinks it better switch to the now stronger signal.. I really don't know if that is happening but it can't be that hard to test.
Since both have the same ESSID you can't make either the default auto.. and lock it to just one... I have no idea if you can change the ESSID on one say the repeater but maybe you could.
Re: 11.04 wireless keeps dropping, Intel 6205
Erans, have you solved the issue? I've just upgraded to 11.10 and I'm experiencing now exactly the same problem on my Thinkpad T420 with Intel centrino 6205.
I know it's not my AP as I have a smooth reception on windows on the same computer.
I just wonder why it's happening to me now with the new 3.0.0-12 kernel and not before under Natty...I'm even wondering if my post is relevant in this thread...
Apparently, LP bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/836250) reports the issue but does not provide a solution.
Re: 11.04 wireless keeps dropping, Intel 6205
Sorry man, can't help--I moved out of the country for research and I'm in places that either don't have wifi or don't have a billion APs with the same SSID, so I can't do any testing. :(
But to answer your question, I never resolved this issue under 11.04. Not sure if I still have it under 11.10.
Re: 11.04 wireless keeps dropping, Intel 6205
Thanks for your answer Erans.
In the mean time, I found a temporary solution, for those who might be interested. Check the LP but report (link in my previous post) and follow instructions in comment #42.
I hope there will soon be an upstream fix though.
