I think it should be useful to update the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ha...inters#Lexmark page to include your suggestion : it would be, I'm sure, greatly appreciated by people trying to install such kind of printers.
How can we achieve that ?
Re: HOWTO: Lexmark Printers
Very easily: Just create a launchpad account and you should be able to log in to edit the wiki. :)
I can do it, but I need to finish something else now and I would also like to see people edit the wiki themselves instead of always waiting for others to do it. ;)

Ok, done that : added a section for Lucid Lynx with your suggestion and added a similar link for the Karmic Koala section (http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic-backports/libstdc++5) as an alternative source.
Re: HOWTO: Lexmark Printers
Installing Lexmark x1270 on a desktop with Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 installed.
I followed the steps outlined here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...=Lexmark+x1270
At the part where I double clicked on the libstdc++5_3.3.6-17ubuntu1_i386.deb icon to install it, I was informed that it was the wrong version since I have amd64.
So after some searching around this Link worked.
What I did:
1) I installed libstdc++5 from synaptic.
2) I dl'd and installed getlibs-all.deb by double clicking on it's icon.
3) I dl'd and installed lexmark.z600-0.4.deb by double clicking on it's icon.
4) I went to System/Administration/Printing.
Added my printer from the list and chose
the z600 colour inkjet driver.
5) I printed a test page. Now I need to buy ink.

If you want to complain, go complain to Dell and Lexmark. They are the ones who should provide GNU/Linux drivers.
Otherwise, have you tried this: http://www.aquarionics.com/journal/2..._debian_linux/ ?
The link to the driver in it doesn't work and I couldn't find Z515 drivers, however, according to the howto, they use z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh, i.e. the driver for z600.
You can find that driver here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ha...exmarkPrinters
The .deb is quite old, but might still work.
If it doesn't, it should still be possible to get it to work, by extrac ting the necessary files and following one of the multiple tutorials using them.
I can eventually remake the .deb for the latest Ubuntu version, as I did in the past.
Just need to get more important things done in real life at the moment. :/
