Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
Hi guys,
It's been a while since I've visited the forums, but I have question. I recently inherited a nice computer which sadly was infected with the Windows XP virus. (:lolflag:) Anyway, I have downloaded and burned the Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 ISO. What I want to know is this: How can I overwrite (as in completely delete, gone forever) Windows XP, while Installing Ubuntu. What setting should I choose when I get to the install screen? It's been a while since I installed Ubuntu on an older computer, but I didn't have to overwrite anything then. Thanks for any help.
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
Choose "entire drive" when installing Ubuntu. It'll then overwrite windows.
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
When you boot up the LiveCD and proceed to install, all you have to do is pick the "use entire hard drive" (or something along those lines) option when partitioning.
Hope that helps. :)
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
I would have thought that using the entire disk would be the right choice.
But, personally, I'd choose the manual partitioning option, as I get more pride out of it (delete that partition with your own bare hands!:D )
Regards
Iain
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
If you want everything gone just pick the Use Entire Disk option when it comes up.
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
the entire disk option is easier but the manual allows you to set seperate / and /home folders so if you want to upgrade in the future, you don't lose everything
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
I believe it would be the first option in the installer
Install> use entire disk.
But you might want to look into other partitioning options such as setting up a separate /home partition which makes it easier when reinstalling and upgrading.
If you are in a hurry just use option #1 and let 'er RIP...
enjoy!
***Dayem I be way slow***
Re: Overwriting Windows While Installing Ubuntu
Thanks for all your replies guys! That was really fast. That's what I'll do: use the entire drive.
