I have been monitoring this thread, and caught the column error, was just verifying before I spoke.
@ Darkishjace; Awaiting Matt's last directive, to see what the status is now.

sudo apt-get upgrade
and it reached the part where it initiates

It should take a minute or two to run.
Let's see what happens when we create it manually.
From the terminal
Code:
sudo update-initramfs -v -c -k 3.5.0-26-generic
Post any output back here. Does it hang still ?
Kind regards

Press ctrl + c in the terminal where it's running.
The command to manually create the initramfs will give us alot more information about what it's done/ doing and where it's hanging as it's using the -v switch (at least this is the hope).
Kind regards
Re: How do i change permissions for initramfs.conf
unfortunately it didnt do anything is their another way other then closing the terminal (ive noticed just closing the terminal causes more problems then good)

Pressing ctrl and c at the same time did not kill it ?
Alright. Please run this command again from another terminal and post back the results.
Code:
ps aux | egrep "dpkg|apt|cent|manager|update"
Post the results back here.
We're not making to much progress at the moment but hopefully that will change.
@bashng-om. Good idea about manually generating initramfs.
Kind regards
