WMP600N (Ralink 2860) ubunutu 12.10 painfully slow

I have 12.10 running 64 bit with a linksys WMP600N. I believe this is the same as ralink 2860. The ralink2800pci driver is being loaded and is painfully slow (i dont seem to drop network connection, but I cant stream audio from my NAS)

I have followed the suggestion here:

and attempted to build the driver, but they dont work for kernels > 3.0 and it hard freezes my computer when I insmod it.

My kernel is 3.7.0-7generic.

I am open to suggestions.
