audio creation
Ok I just installed a ubuntu distro dual booted with XP.
For the bulk of today I have been looking form a good useful audio creation app.
the windows ones I found aren't what I wanted,
So here I am, I looked at Rosegarden and it looks good...but since I am a windows user(have been for years) I don't have a clue how to install anything on ubuntu, a ready to run solution is what I want, but with some help I probably can get around that.
So here I am looking for assistance.
Thanks, total noob

Re: audio creation
Run System/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager. Click on Search (not quick search). Search for rosegarden. Click on the tick-box and select "mark for installation." Then click on "Apply." It should show up in Sound & Video.
When you ask a question, it might be useful to mention what version of Ubuntu you are using. For the latest version, also whether you are using Unity. In that case, you would just run Synaptic.
When you say "Audio creation," you mean with MIDI? For capturing actual sound, Audacity might be more relevant.
Oops, one thing to check when you run Synaptic. Select Settings/Repositories, and make sure universe, restricted and multiverse are selected. Also under "other software," partners and medibuntu. Then you need to click on Reload.
You will probably find it worthwhile to install the "restricted extras," the same way as you install rosegarden.

Re: audio creation
Rosegarden has a nice MIDI support (if you happen to have a MIDI card - as well as using the sound input from the 'mic' ...

Re: audio creation
Gordonintoronto, sorry, I have unubtu 10.04lts installed. Audio creation on this context means I want to do my own stuff.
This Ubuntu has been an adventure for me, The way I understand it most of the apps install via internet, but I need to install from CD/jumpdrive. Also as I understand it all I need to do, is dowload the source, then mark it for installation, so the program will adapt itself to the ubuntu /linux version is that right?
