Re: HowTo: Compiz Fusion in Hardy on cards with "ati"/"radeon" open source drivers
notanerd, it would likely help if you have a default xorg.conf file. See here - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=690760
Are you using restricted drivers? If so, how did you install them?
Re: HowTo: Compiz Fusion in Hardy on cards with "ati"/"radeon" open source drivers
I ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but their was no prompt in it to select a video driver. Regardless my xorg.conf has been changed but I am still having the same problem. I was using catalyst 9.3 for a while but the video playback sucked so i purged fglrx and installed the open source driver with apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
Re: HowTo: Compiz Fusion in Hardy on cards with "ati"/"radeon" open source drivers
Are you using Hardy, or some other release of Ubuntu? Can you please post the output of:
Code:
lspci | grep VGA
lsmod | grep fglrx
lsmod | grep radeon
glxinfo | grep direct

Re: HowTo: Compiz Fusion in Hardy on cards with "ati"/"radeon" open source drivers
In the past couple of years, I have seen a number of people having problems specifically with their Radeon 9600 cards - some people's work, others' simply don't. I'm afraid I don't have a solution for you, so I won't drag this out here. I suggest that you start a new thread specifically for your problem as this one is meant for Hardy and enabling compiz to run, not troubleshooting it. Sorry, and good luck.

No worries, thanks for your effort anyway. I think it is a lost cause, and I don't care that much really. I can live without fancy effects.
