what to upgrade
Hi,
I have a home server with 5 people at this moment. But I hope soon they will be 10.
The first purpose of this server is to share pictures and family videos.
CPU is Intel Celeron 560@2.13GHz ,1.5 GB RAM and a 120GB HDD and a 160GB HDD. The 120 GB the main HDD and the ubuntu 12.04LTS is on it. Every user can write this disk and read and the another HDD is just readable and synchronised with rsync. So anybody write something on the first HDD it will be copied to the second one. But I want to change the rights on the first disk that the user can write only on it(share what they want) and not execute and execute everything from the second one just try to keep a reasonable speed.
My upload speed is up to 10Mbit/sec.
Or I buy an enclosure and make a RAID. Is there worth to make RAID? Sometimes 3 people use it one time but most of time just 1-2.
Is there worth to put more memory and a dual core CPU(Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390)?
Thank you
Peter

Re: what to upgrade
Thank you.
So I'm not going for the RAID but I'm going to change the CPU. It costs much less here in the UK, around $8.
What do you think about the method I'll do? Write only on the main disk and read, execute only on the second one.
And I'll check the other programs.
I run the rsync in every 15 minutes so hard to loose anything unless both HDD broken down in the same time or I delete something by accident.
And I'll try definitely the rdiff- backup because it can be very useful. At this moment I don't have any important file on this system but I'd like to scan a lot of pictures from the past. I mean 20-30-40 years old pictures.
Thank you
