Wireless and Graphics Drivers
Hi
I installed Ubuntu 12.10 fresh. I saw that the wireless came with the CD itself. Also I have radeon graphics card. I dint install any of the drivers which i usually do with earlier versions of Ubuntu. Currently no proprietary drivers are installed.
Now my Question is which should i go with. The default open source or the Proprietary? Which ll give better performance ?
I have attached a screen-shot. More the information the better!!
Thanks
Re: Wireless and Graphics Drivers
Is every thing working to your satisfaction?
Are you able to establish a wireless connection to your wireless access point? If so, why change?
The same questions would apply in regards to the video display. Do you have a reason for using another driver? With video drivers you can experiment.
I have Nvidia and it has been my experience over the past few months that the Nouveau open source driver has improved considerably. Whereas the Nvidia drivers were buggy causing a broken desktop. I use the open source video driver. It is more than sufficient for my hardware. I cannot comment on what is better for your hardware.
Regards.
Re: Wireless and Graphics Drivers
Wireless is working fine!! I was just wondering how it started working automatically.. How does Ubuntu pack all the wireless drivers for all the vendor's WiFi card in that 700MB CD??
Regarding Graphics driver, starting from the beginning of unity i am not happy with the graphics performance. That too in 12.10 when i search something its insanely slow. It displays thumbnails after 5 to 10 seconds!! That's why thought of changing the graphics driver to test if it gives better performance!!!
