Laptop INCOMPATIBILITY List.

4) -No dimming (indicator works with function keys but no dimming control)
-No mulitouch on touchpad

black screen on LCD, but works on the external monitor.
See similar issue on Intel HD VGA on same Latitude model, so guess be LCD driver issue ... still can't find the workable linux driver for it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D with Ubuntu 10.04.1. The fan control with Ubuntu doesn't work, and none of the Function keys works :(

4 udev has issue with optiarc dvd rw everytime u boot u have to restart udev to make cpu go to 0% load (solution i upgraded kernel to 2.6.35-19 and now optiarc and udev work correctly)
intel acl1200 doesnt work out of the box u have to configure it and it take a bit of time.
OS driver for ati hd4850 use more gpu and cpu than fglrx
i didnt try to configure or look for solution to make ati hdmi work
when you play HD clips movies from desktop or from youtube cpu load goes to 65% gpu stays at 5%

4. original install of Win 7 on fakeraid wasn't immediately compatible, switched to 2x64GB SSDs in JBOD. Graphics are a big pain, neither integrated Intel HD or dedicated NVidia GT330M are recognized. Try to use 'nvidia-xconfig' to set up xorg.conf but to no avail. Tried to install appropriate driver from NVidia website which also didn't work. Only way to make it not boot to black screen is to edit grub boot commands replacing "quiet splash" with "single nomodeset i8042.nopnp" also to make the touchpad work. This allows me to boot in FailSafeX graphics mode which knocks down my screen to 1280x1024 but I have the 1920x1080 model and would obviously like to harness the switchable graphics.

Also when I boot the -24 kernel I get an error with udev

4)No Known Issues. The only thing I've run into was the flash player (like for youtube or hulu) but that was easily fixed by installing the "resistricted extra" package. I'm new to linux and still learning the OS...but so far everything has worked. Wireless, speakers, built in mic, graphics, The dimming functions, touch pad, usb mouse, eject button for the CD. I'm extremely pleased with this OS. I'm mostly a windows guy.

I'm still trying things out so I guess I'll edit this as I find things. But as for now everything works. I haven't tried a webcam because I don't have one. As soon as I can find one I'll give it a go. Also, haven't tried printing.

So, yeah...it seems likes Ubuntu 10.04 and the compaq 6510b play very well together.

Known issues: Screen keeps flickering on bottom half like it's cutting out. Sound does not mute when headphones are plugged in, sounds continue to play through speakers and headphones. DVD drive tray does not eject when the button is pressed, only using right click --> eject method will work.
