update kernel modules same as previous

I have Dell desktop that has a nvidia GT218 (GeForce 310) graphics card which has given me no end of problems. I've never been able to get drivers to produce 3D desktops previously. It normall schrinks the screen and leaves a big black border around the outside!

With a previous kernel (3.2.0-25-generic) it did work better but now I've updated to 3.2.0-30 and it will not work correctly. I still have both installed. My question is, is it possible to use the new kernel but use the previous modules or whatever it takes to make it look and act like the 0-25-generic version which gave much better results?
