I run the two longest-established Ubuntu wikis (Ubuntuguide.org and Kubuntuguide.info) and have banned most of the moderators from Ubuntu forums for posting there due to their inaccurate and dangerous advice.

Realize that Ubuntu forums, while currently relatively sanctioned by Canonical, was not developed by Canonical nor the Ubuntu developers but by a hobbyist with little actual knowledge of Linux.

The real Ubuntu community communicates in IRC channels (and have done so for years) and mailing lists. Ubuntu forums is for the plebes.

So take the moderator rantings with a grain of salt -- people with the least knowledge are often the most "politically correct."

I can't respond publicly to your post because the esteemed moderators have limited my ability to post on anything controversial as well.

Be assured that Ubuntu Forums is not actually moderated by experienced Ubuntu denizens; those who post on Ubuntu forums much of the time are the least knowledgeable people in Ubuntu (and that especially includes the moderators); the actual development community never participates here.

I have seen some frankly dangerous advice given by the very moderators that do the sanctions. Bodhi-zazen and forestpiskie are two of the most dangerous -- they routinely give security advice that opens holes in complex systems.
