Hi, remember me?
I think that there are a few reasons why laptop gets used for notebooks; a prime reason is that the word laptop had been heard & was somewhat entrenched in the mind of many of the masses, most of them being computer illiterate at the time. When the notebooks were released, they were just a smaller, lighter more powerful laptop, so even though their name was officially notebook, only a small percentage of people called them by their correct name.
Time goes by & the misnomer becomes so entrenched that it will have the same meaning as notebook, as it already does for the majority of people already.
Thanks for the compliment re. the website, you are most welcome to join, if you haven't already.
that spiralinear forum is nice man.
Ive actually been to that site before.
good stuff man.
specially the conspiracy section. lol
right up my 'alley'
i just wanted to reply to your last post,
without anymore hijacking. lol
perhaps the reason the term "laptop" is used most often by the masses,
is because a "notebook" is also a little pad/book of paper that you write notes and other things in.
And actual, paper notebooks are still widely used today (even though they may not be in the next 10 years or so). lol
and they are called "notebooks".
I don't think there is really another name for them.
but "laptop" can only mean one thing, in todays world..
so i think that's why people cling to that, rather than 'notebook'.
laptop just seems like the logical thing to call them I guess,
and probably helps keep an already very confused world a little less confused , if at all possible.? lol
What the hell did the two of you do?
Dragonbite, we may have completely different views on some topics, but really, when all is said & done, those views, & the debates, come to nothing.
In the end we are just amusing ourselves as best our tiny little minds will allow us.
To my mind, the truth is that we are made from the same identical love.
We so often tend to fool ourselves into believing something (anything!) different. (Which is a pretty weird human problem!)...
It is always a pleasure to discuss or argue with you Dragonbite, as in the end you are just plain loveable.
At least from a distance anyway. lol
After reading your message on Nick_Jinn's profile, I just want to say that you are not the only one guilty of pushing things (probably) a little too far.
My apologies to you though some of the conversations, no matter how heated, were exciting and insightful. I hope that one day we'll be able to continue them.
Yes, I've been an AMD supporter ever since the first slot A (I think it was called) Athlon's were released. AMD have given Intel great competition which has benefited the computer world for the consumer in a absolutely huge amount.
If not for AMD we would be running vastly inferior CPUs with dramatically increased purchase prices.
Yeah hardware is at rock bottom prices. I just priced my current build at just 240$ minus the monitor ,speakers and input devices. I just can't believe the quality of the graphics out of this base model card. The real kicker is how well the ATI driver works. I have always been an AMD fan and now I can add their graphics division.
Handy I know your an ATI video expert from previous posts and would like you to know I'm about to convert. Previously all my rigs had Nvidia cards but my latest experiment with the lowly ATI 4350 has enlightened me. For all of 29$ it out performs Nvidia cards with nouveau driver. I'm just using the open source radeon driver and my 3d effects are grand.
Still having fun...
