thanks about the info. i have a large external hdd (1 GB) and i will use that to save my files while i convert ntfs to ext filesystem. i didnt know about permissions, but i know ext filesystem is superior to ntfs. i will back up my files and run partition magic on that partition. i can afford spending 40 GB of disk space

I suddenly remembered that you have the same card (RME HDSP 9632) as I. And a while back someone found a solution. I think I posted it here somewhere to, and maybe you've seen it already. But in case you haven't, it is here: http://pulseaudio.org/ticket/764#comment:2
Let me know if you want to try it out, but are unsure of how to do it. It does make pulseaudio work - more or less.

Yea, I got your message then couldn't find it again to reply and found it today. Duh! I found something today I thought you might be interested in so coincidental really. Check out Nted if you haven't already. It is available in the repositories and there is a website if you do a search.
