    I haven't quite sorted it, but it works after a fashion. My monitor is not supported in the kernel yet, but I now have a copy of xorg.conf on a usb penstick so if I have to rebuild at least I can get back to where I am now. As to Xrandr, this didn't work for me. Hope this gets sorted in xorg 7.4 and Intrepid.
