I've been having problems (mine is my screen flashing and I have a fear of freezing up because I did once last week)
Since I've been having problems, I have been sympathetic to your problem.

You use the -P command-line option to switch between firefox profiles. So if the default is named "default", you would use a command of "firefox -P default". I recommend making icons as I described in the relevant thread.
