Thanks for the info. I would like to try a clean install, but I have to wait until I can afford a backup media (CD's) before I can do that. I have quite a bit of stuff from some projects I have been working on and they are in total a lot bigger than my small 512mb usb drive. I have never had restricted drivers running for the card, and when I look in restricted drivers nothing is there, and I really don't know how to go about enabling them. Any ideas?
Thanks for the help!

Have you ever had restricted drivers running on this video card? I honestly think you should back up your data, emails, bookmarks and then do a clean install of Hardy. Get ALL the updates (I even get the proposed after an intial install). Start from there. I've had problems with ATI cards (I have many) and they ALL play video and run compiz just fine. The AMD website says your card is supported, but since I don't have that particular card I can't promise it myself.
I'm hard pressed to believe that if I could get my hands on that system, I couldn't get it all working. It's really hard (for me) to give good tech support working from a text forum. Some people are great at it but I'm not. If it worked on a previous version of Ubuntu, it should work on the current version. It's possible that from a clean install it will "Just Work". Many things that required me days of tinkering under Gutsy "Just Work" from a CLEAN install with all needed hardware in place and turned on during the install of Hardy 32-bit.
