    Regarding 0.9.9a

There are some advantages, and some regressions, breakages.

I guess it would be more determined by your usage.

Note that 0.9x and 1.0, 1.1, all continue to have some issues when opening directories from vlc, though if you go the other way it usually works right (r. click on a dir. -> open with vlc (as of a week or so ago, haven't built vlc since then

I'm a little confused about that too. I'm going to read thru all your posts and see.

I remember you were building a 0.5 version at some point, then you moved over to FO's guide ,but I think you used the 0.5 source.(instead of the svn
If that's the case then it would be named as his checkinstall command would do, but the version is what it is (0.5

I just worked out how to patch ffmpeg for wmapro, do you want to do that or just leave as is? (about 5 commands, should only take about 15 min start to finish
Is what you have now giving you what you want?

Wost case I could very easily build you a patched 64 bit mplayer package set (mplayer, mencoder, mplayer docs) while I'm on the live cd
They'd be full debian packages (not checkinstall

I did that for someone on a 8.10 64 bitand someone on a jaunty 64, worked out well

I spent tonight rebuilding the latest debian-multimedia ffmpeg package set (15 .deb's) patched for wmapro for my son's 8.10 install ( that was the 8.10 I moved to debian-multimedia vs. medibuntu
The patching was easy, the big issue was the rules file included wasn't meant for an ubuntu install

Myself my desktop hardware is best suited for hardy so I intend to stay with it.

    I do the live cd building on a little m1330 laptop, it's incredible how snappy 8.04 -> 9.04 is on a core2duo

Got your message, I posted 2 configures in that thread # 25.
The deal with wma3(pro)(wmap)(0x162) in ffmpeg is this

At some point i'd expect it'll make it's way into a svn, but it can be patched in now.

The only real advantage would be it would allow you to convert wmap audio or video with wmap audio to something else that your media players can handle.

If you think that would be useful give me a day, I'll boot up to a live 8.04 hardy 64 bit cd and see if there's any difficulties.

What else you could consider is building a 64 bit mplayer patched for wmapro audio.

Here's a post describing how, again I'll ck. it out tomorrow, when you use svn's you never know what might change.

1 tiny little issue with your ffmpeg which is absolutely fine except.. if you have any intentions of building something that depends on libswscale it's going to fail. (for ex. vlc

I think we're both guility of not reading closely enough
I assumed that you followed fakeoutdoorsman guide verbatium which used the latest svn.

you didn't notice I mentioned that for the 0.5 release the configure options are different, libswscale has to be enabled and that the configure in post 25 was for the latest svn

I'm going to edit post number 25 tomorrow with 2 good ./configures, 1 for the svn, one for the 0.5 release
This way if needed you can square that up. ( I think we went a bit OT there, hence the edit

    Slightly Ot to this
I'm thinking your running 64 bit. If that's the case than ffmpeg can't decode or convert wmap (wma3pro).

If that matters to you then it can be enabled, you need to build and patch the svn but steal a file from the 0.5 release (talk about confusing!)

Just wanted to extend my thanks. I reinstalled Kubuntu after a big mess with my sound card. Naturally, GRUB didn't quite get the menu.lst right for Windows. And I was forgetting the space between map (hd0)^(hd1), as many times as I have had to edit menu.lst, I can't believe I forgot it.

You pointed it out in a thread, so thanks! I would formally thank you, but the thread is archived.
