Hello all,

I am using VSFTPD on my home server to allow users to connect and access/manipulate their files remotely.

I am able to connect to the VSFTPD server using the command line and using nautilus's ftp://... I can access and manipulate my files correctly.

However, when I try to connect through a browser (testing Firefox and Windows IE), I am unable to connect. I get the prompt for username and password, which I then enter correctly, and I get the response (in firefox) "Error 550: Permission Denied". In IE, I get "200 switching to ASCII mode 550 Permission Denied"

Other ftp clients work well.

Any suggestions on what I need to do to get FTP access via the browser?

Tech level: Intermediate, comfortable with command line, vi, etc.

Thanks in advance...

hi ..

i am an absolute newbie to ubuntu ,,

i tried going through the "absolute beginner talk" but couldn't find what i was looking for ..

heres my problem :

i am having bridged connection (requires username and password to connect to the internet)

i tried the method suggested by many :

open terminal
sudo pppoeconf
(it asks for password and i enter it )
then a window opens up telling :
" I found 3 ethernet devices
eth0
pan0
wlan0

are all you ethernet interfaces listed above"

i select yes

and then it starts "scanning device"
first eth0, pan0 and wlan0
then eth0(multi-modem mode)
same for pan0 and wlan0

finished by sayin:
" sorry i scanned 3 interfaces but access contrator of your provider did not respond.. please check your ntw and modem cables. another reason for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe process which controls the modem"

selected ok (the only option available)

ok and just for additional details ..

i am using ubuntu 9.04 ,, my net connection has been configured as static ip . (in windows i have to enter the ip address and DNS server addresses)

thats where i stand now ......

i really need your help ppl ..

i need to start using ubuntu for my final year project..

Hello there Ubuntu community members !
As a newbie, I have got heaps of questions every day, and always get the right answer from you guys !

In this country, there is a website for videos called tvolucion.com
I really can not understand why their videos can not be played using our Operating System; can only be played using either a macintosh or a windows based Pc.

Is there any tweak, trick, or anything you can suggest that I get from open source software like gnash (maybe) ?

I am not very computer literate, all I have read on the net says that this tvolucion site has to do with a flash player.

I am really looking forward to hearing from you guys !
Aroha

Ps.- I am running karmic koala- netbook remix- on my acer asper one

When I decided to get ubuntu up and running again I discovered the wubi installer for windows. Using this I installed ubuntu onto a small partition as for some reason it didnt like being on anything other than C:

Heres the problem:

I have nearly run out of space on my partition but I have lots of space in other partitions. Is there any way I can extend the partition or use another partition for installed programs in ubuntu?

Sorry If this is a bit unclear I'm quite tired.

Thanks all.

Since Openvpn is too complicated, i.e. not Human to be installed and not standard, as microsoft, PPTP over SSH could be a solution?

Is this secured? Any ideas how to make it, if it is still an up to date way to be in our network?

Is PPTP still valuable tool. It is said not to use it anymore....

If ok, is there HOWTO / TUTO good for Debian Squeeze?
pptp is not secure but is more standard than openvpn.
openvpn needs lot of exe and complication.
You take windows XP, setup the connection with pptp and it works
no openvpn exe files.
I've only used Kino once before for a few mins and don't have video editing experience. But I wanted to mash 2 videos togethers - one mp4 and the other flv.

Kino was PERFECT for this editing. I dragged the videos into a window, imported and easily edited out the pertinent sections before Exporting the 2 videos into one mpeg file. I'm impressed - very easy and intuitive for editing work.
