good news, it turns out with a bit of registry tweaking, morrowind can run excellently in wine (as long as you don't have an integrated graphics card). I just need to figure out why I can't install mods and I'll be fine
Depends on the hardware, but it was always playable for me. I will test Wine 1.2 on Maverick in a bit. Intel cards seem to handle morrowind poorly though. I enabled experimental shaders and compression and have had good results though. I will get back to you when I do, feel free to ask any questions. What kind of framerate does 1.0 get? I consider 20 minimal playable. As for 1.2 on lucid, with my geforce 4 Ti 4200 (old, I know), P4 overclocked to 3.2 and a GB of RAM, I get maximum 10-15 fps. Unfortunately I can't justify getting a new graphics card, seeing as I'd have to buy an AGP which would be useless for my next comp.
Barring a few graphical glitches I have found Wine 1.0 handles it the best, but sometimes it doesnt like sound using pulse.
what's the highest performance you've gotten with those modifications?
I'm kinda aggravated that openMW stalled out, why would they have chosen to start writing their program in D only to migrate after a significant amount of progress had been made?
Also, do you know if a particular version of wine handles it better than the others?
I have never found it to run well. It has some graphical issue. Your performance is standard for Morrowind on Wine. Try using pbuffer in place of fbo. Press alt+f2 and type: regedit Then look here for reference: http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
just wondering; how do you optimize morrowind's performance on your system? For some reason on my desktop, I'm getting something like 10-15FPS despite my geforce 4 card, whereas on a friend's windows 7 laptop with an integrated card, it gets 30.
