Hey Everyone,

I am running an Asus F3K Series laptop and I have tried both burning it to a CD and using UNetbootin to load the live Kubuntu 8.10 Disc on my laptop but both of them hang after the line "Checking Battery: [OK]"

Anyone know what I should to try and fix this? Or what I can do to help debug this.

I have asus f3sr notebook , probably similar to yours, i got same issue.THe only way i could find : Download kubuntu alternate cd.install kubuntu. After that , ubuntu wont boot , you will get blank screen.

Now press alt +ctrl +f1 and drop to terminal.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

reboot now(YES reboot before giving the commands below). It wont boot again :) then drop to terminal again and :

sudo apt-get install build-essential xorg-driver-fglrx
sudo aticonfig --initial -f

reboot now.You will be ok

Wow that seems rather stupid... it loaded fine off of 8.04 Live CD why the change in 8.10, anyone know? Thanks for the info though, is there a walk through on the alternate CD to help me partition my drive for half vist-aids/kubuntu?

Hey binbash,

That worked like a charm! I now have Kubuntu 8.10 installed and I am going to start putting my apps. on later today. Thank you very much :)
