I have a new XPS m1330 on the way and it comes with this remote. I was wondering if anybody has gotten it to work in Ubuntu or can tell me a little about it.

The remote shares the same keyboard commands as the media buttons across the top above the keyboard. Ubuntu doesn't know if the remote or the media buttons are signaling the specific command since it is done in the hardware. I mention all of this because most of the media buttons are supported right out of the box with Ubuntu. The volume buttons work anytime, the others such as play, stop, forward, will work depending which media player you have open at the time.

I use Amarok, do you know if the media buttons work with that? Also, I know the remote can be used with powerpoints and that kind of thing too. I guess I can just find out in a few days once I get my laptop, but I am trying to figure out as much as I can before I get it.

Not sure about Amarok but both Totem and Rhythmbox support the remote functions. I'm fairly optimistic that Amarok will do the same.

Do you know if it works under Kubuntu Intrepid? Mine has stopped working and is not a battery problem :(

If the media buttons work above the keyboard then the remote should work as well since the hardware maps both to the same commands which it passes to the OS.
To put it another way if your volume works on your media buttons but not the remote then you have a problem with the remote. If neither work then its a configuration problem in Ubuntu.
