November 30th, 2008, 01:31 PM
I have 2 laptops which both use a WiFi router for internet access.
I transfer files from my Ubuntu Intrepid laptop to my wifes Vista laptop using a USB dongle.
How can i share files using the local router for WiFi shareing.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have found threads for use over the internet but not Lan.

I have had a hard time trying to link my windows xp notebook with my Ubuntu desktop via a standard HUB, so I invested in a router HUB which solved a lot of my issues with connection however you might want to try this Thread to configure samba " a program which allows you to communicate with windows based machines" to share printers and files.
oh what setup do you have?

in vista you need to enable a sharing file, I think its,
other network places, set up a home or small office network(you can choose wireless net work would be more secure) then follow the instructions. when its done it asks if you want to copy the details onto a disk/usb to transfer settings to another pc, say no, just remember the passwords you set. Then open network in your laptop(places-network) click on windows network and you should see the available folders. then just copy and paste the files you wish to share and they should then transfer to the windows pc, from there put them where you want.
Hope it helps
