I love VLC and use it near-religiously, but I also use Totem (which I used to hate, but now kinda like) to watch stuff sometimes as I haven't bothered to configure my "Open with" options on certain filetypes.

Most (nearly all) of my internet media viewing is done via Boxee.

Since I watch a lot of anime and VLC is terrible about subtitles, I use SMPlayer. Mplayer is the king of video on Linux, but its interface is terrible. There are many frontends to it, but I eventually settled on SMPlayer.

VLC and MPlayer are the most used ones. I prefer MPlayer. As told by Xiong Chiamiov, the interface is somewhat terrible. Popular GUIs for Mplayer are SMPlayer (it has lots of configuration options) and GNOME MPlayer (a simple interface).

VLC - for some reason video is terrible on totem with black squares but VLC is great. Now to figure out how to make VLC default. :)
