I've installed 8.04 server on my machine - and I think an installer step was missed for some reason. I have tried locating x:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop with no luck.
I get:

Reading package lists...Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information..Done
E: Couldn't find package ubuntu-desktop

This is an older HP Visualize X-class machine (dual P3/733) I would like to install Ubuntu Desktop 8.10 - and move my server studies over to a Dell 1400SC that I am re-building but I get the fabled "black screen" when I try to install the desktop version. That's why I installed 8.04 server for the time being.
Anybody help a novice figure these problems out? Many thanks.

Servers install without desktop. Is the machine connected to internet to download packages?
