I installed an old Belkin G wireless network card. The card was detected, automatically downloaded and installed the driver, could see my wireless network, has great signal strength, can tell if it is encrypted or not. Everything looks perfect except that it won't actually connect.

I can connect with my laptop fine so it is not the router. The little icon with the two green dots has the blue circle thing around then it gives up and either asks for my encryption key or it just gives up and goes back to my wired connection if encryption is not enabled.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10. I am using the Broadcom B43 legacy wireless driver that downloaded automatically. Not sure where to begin troubleshooting. Any ideas?

OK. After checking the logs, it seems that the connection times out after only 1-2 seconds. This seems a little too soon to me. My laptop sometimes takes 5-10 seconds to connect.
