Just installed Intrepid (dual boot with vista) on a friend's comp (Satellite L305D - Amd 64 dual core - 3 Gig Ram - 250 Gig HD) and even though the Atheros driver is enabled, there is no sign of a wireless network or connection. I have wicd installed on it and showing no connections available. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 of my own here beside this one with wicd, and am showing four connections available and connected to one right now. Output from his machine using iwconfig is
eth 0 no wireless extensions
lo no wireless extensions
pan0 no wireless extensions

Can anyone point me in the right direction? My friend keeps hearing me talk about linux all the time, so decided to let me put it on his comp. I would really like to get this working and make a good impression on his first encounter with linux. Thanks for the help.
