View Full Version : WoW just stopped working!

I followed the How-to to the letter, and WoW has worked for almost 2 weeks now. I played it for a few hours this morning, then logged out. A couple hours later I tried to log back in, and it hangs and flickers black when it gets to 'Handshaking'. This could be a result of the new patch that's supposed to go into place this morning at 3AM (some pre-work they're doing?) but it still works fine on my roommate's windows box. The only thing I did between times playing is update rhythmbox to the latest unstable version (found a thread somewhere in here about 0.9.2 with daap support). I can't see how this would have screwed things up.
Is there any way to roll back the last X installed programs to their previous version to see if this solves my problem?

the problem is most probably caused by the patch u mentioned. on widows the patch has no negative effects but if your using cedega or wine to play on linux then it could keep you from playing (same thing has happend with large patches of guild wars) and youll have to wait for a fix. try searching the transgaming forum if your using cedega the url is http://transgaming.org/forum/search.php. If you want to try uninstalling something do it using synaptic or apt-get youll have to remember what you installed last though .

An update: the patch came out early this morning, I just booted WoW up again and tried to log in. It brought up the autodownloader (at right around the spot it was hanging before... just after the 'handshaking') and downloaded, then installed the patch fine. Boot it back up, and I'm now in 1.8.4 (so says the bottom corner).
Problem is it still hangs/crashes after handshaking. The little window that tells me whats up kinda shrinks down since there's no text in it, and the button that normally reads 'cancel' is blank as well. The screen flickers black, and is totally unresponsive. Switching virtual desktops and coming back again presents me with a black screen, so nothing is being redrawn. I have to switch to a console and kill the wineserver processes to get out.
I have no idea how to fix this. Anybody else having this problem?
