My mini-9 comes with not the expected i386 architecture, but the lpia (Low Power Intel Architecture). Also, it comes with apt sources pointed at dell-mini-archive.canonical.com, not the official ubuntu archives.
It seems that the official ubuntu archives don't support this lpia architecture.
So where can I read up on the differences between lpia and i386. And will there ever be a lpia version of Ibex? And what archive should I really use?

Ive been testing 8.10 booting from an external HDD and except for adding one line with gedit to get the sound working everything works. love the transparent VLC control panel in full screen when ever the mouse is moved.

fantastic questions. the change actually is driving me nuts (because of repo/package problems), but i'll stick with lpia if it really does help performance and/or battery life. if it's only 5 or 10% though, screw it i want my i386 back... i haven't found the answers we're looking for yet, but will keep looking.

Check this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993632) for a discussion of the perceived pro's/cons of lpia vs i386.

I want to move my Dell Mini 9 from Ubuntu 8.04 to Kubuntu 9.04, got 2GB slow 533MHz and a 64GB SSD. I tested 9.04 on one of my Toughbooks and after a few updates, it's awsome. The LPIA kernal and packages are only worth about 10% savings and the Dell repositories are so limited...
