i have never met such a bunch of wannabe elitist, basement dwelling, tin foil hat wearing dweebs in all my life. i would rather hang out in windows forums, despite my hatred of windows. it's that bad. i had hung out there in the past, and left, but decided to give it a couple of days and see how it goes. NO GO. they all act (OK, not everybody) like their feces don't stink, and that if you use anything but debian, you are a child in need of guidance. it makes me appreciate ubuntuforums even more. i use debian now, but their forums leave ALOT to be desired.
if it wasn't for the fact i can't swear here, my review of that forum would have been alot more "to the point".

I've had similar experiences there where if you don't use Debian then you are obviously inferior to them. If you really want get things stirred up say that you use Ubuntu and see what their reaction is ;) although on the positive side the forum and it's users were pretty helpful to me when I was first trying out Debian

I can't go there. If I did, I would have my IP address banned for posting this thread:
Ubuntu, Debian with Style.

you are evil incarnate if you use ubuntu. they will crucify you then eat your flesh if you say you are an ubuntu user. they act like ubuntu is the worst thing ever to grace this planet. i get the feeling some of them would use windows before ubuntu. i have no need for rude elitists. but i do think debian is the bee's knees. it rocks. too bad the forum that is supposed to represent debian does not.

please do it! i would love to see their panties in a bunch. i think i despise debian forum users more than windows users coming here saying how much linux sucks. (they don't know any better)

if you want to go there and speak your mind, go ahead. they won't ban you for your honesty. they will HEAVILY disagree and put you down, but as long as you're not rude, i don't see a problem.

Isn't that cool though and sssooo unlike most other forums. So that is why it is full of elitist beepholes, because you are free to truly be yourself and still fit in. Be whatever you want to be. The beepholes will be beepholes, the fanbois will be fanbois, the trolls will be trolls. That is exactly what makes it the best forums in the world. No need to be a stepford, no need to supress how you really feel, just be yourself and be willing to accept the consequence. A real community. Nobody 'moderates' you in the real world, so why would they do so at a forum?

Good to know I'm not alone on this. Love Debian (I'm using Lenny)...but the forums are a hoot. There's good information there, if you're willing to put up with some pompous "rear end", self-important folks. A couple are so rude, it's laughable. I've often felt sorry for some innocent person who merely asks a question, and get's slammed, made fun of and basically told to download and install Ubuntu or to go to the Ubuntu forums and ask questions like that.
To be fair, it's really only two or three individuals ("rickh" comes to mind). But the rest are bullied by the few so you won't see many long threads because these donkeys hijack it. The problem is these donkeys are usually right on the technicals issues, when they actually give specific information and not insulting unsuspecting newbies.
Oh, and they're equal opprotunity donkeys. It's not just Ubuntu. They don't like Mint Mepis really anything but Debian. Recently they answered one inquiry by just telling them to go back to Windows.

i would like to meet rickh in person.
and, "go back to windows" response doesn't surprise me.

You may be a child in need of guidance if you run around talking trash about one forum on another forum...especially when you are free to speak your mind at that forum anyway.

I get enough grief on these forums for using Windows. If they cannot even accept the fact I use Ubuntu over there, I'm afraid of what they'd say about my Windows usage.

You sound like a good candidate for this group:
http://ubuntuforums.org/group.php?groupid=163
Hi, here's why I started this group. I've had enough of Ubuntu and switched to Debian, but I still think it's an incredible distro with an incredible community, and I still want to feel like a part of that community.
Now, if you've spend any time at all on the Debian Forums you'll see that there are more than a few people there with negative attitudes about Ubuntu; its forums, users, philosophy, development model... that probably covers the major gripes.
The purpose of this group is not to engage in debates, or to try and convince either Ubuntu or Debian users about who is right or better. The purpose of this group is to try to influence people's opinions by taking an active and positive role in the forums of both Debian and Ubuntu.
Here is an example of what I mean. Check out this thread here. Make sure you follow the link to the Ubuntu thread in question. Now, assuming the thread was still open, one way we could help is by posting the better solution mentioned over in the Debian forums to the Ubuntu forums.
We would try to participate in the Debian forums in the "Debian Way", and take some of what we learn over to the Ubuntu forums. Partly just to help Ubuntu users, but also to show that there are in fact Debian users who are wiling to help Ubuntu users make the transition to Debian.
I'm actually just making the transition myself. But this is the spirit in which I'm trying to make it. I have some more ideas, like agreeing not to participate in debates about which is 'best', agreeing not to get into arguments with either Ubuntu or Debian users about their favourite distro, but this is enough for now. Perhaps once a few more people join we can have a discussion about goals, and code of conduct and such. Or if it's even worthwhile having such a group.
For now, I plan on trying to be more active on the Debian forums, try to learn the "Debian Way", and bring back what I learn to the Ubuntu forums. Obviously, we'll probably want to be active on the Debian sub forum, on the Other OS forum, helping Ubuntu users make the transition to Debian.

i am also allowed to speak my mind here. (within reason) if you think it is talking trash, that's too bad. others feel the same way i do. have a nice day.

So you get arrested for calling someone a child? for saying that their car is crap? for saying their house sucks? for speaking your mind? for being rude? No you dont. You may be socially ostricized, you may be known as the &*$hole but the police have nothing to do with it.

All communities are entitled to their own culture. Bashing one community on another's forums is not in good taste. It's not only more polite but, more constructive, to discuss your issues with the community in question on their own forums. This thread has been discussed among some of the staff and we don't currently see a reason to re-open the thread. If anyone has a strong objection to the closing of the thread, please take it up with the Forum Council.
