I am running 8.10 and everything has been fine. After the last kernel update all filesharing ceased to work (printers too). I have managed to get windows to see ubuntu shares as normal, printing from both machines is normal, but the windows xp box does not show up in 'places/network'. It shows the ubuntu machine and 'windows network'. when I click windows network it shows my workgroup...click that and blank. If I open firefox and type in smb://10.x.x.x (address of windows machine), I see the shares, can click on them, and access the shares...whats up with that!!! I've read several threads with similar problems but none work for me

Anyone???
I pull up places/network click on workgroup and it lists the machine I'm on but nothing for the windows machine.

well...have no idea why (I did nothing...but boom, it all came up like normal now). I use static IPs and have noticed the network manager with this upgrade is a little difficult to deal with...
