I just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 today and ever since it runs slow and locks up every hour. I don't think it's a hardware-only problem, because it works fine in XP. Any ideas as to why it'd be doin this? :/

Also, I forgot to mention that my laptop was overheating like crazy.

If it helps I have visual effects on the lowest settings (other than None.)

I ran 'sudo lshw' and got this:

It doesn't freeze when I'm running any specific app. A few times it's froze right at start up.

Ive been having freeze ups with Hardy and every other version of Ubuntu
In every case it came down to APIC.
With Hardy I put
APIC=off
at the very end of the Kernel line of the kernel your booting on.
If you want to make permenant you open
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst to put this item in place.
For some reason Linux of just about any version doesnt like the apic on this motherboard.
