Acer overheating

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit. I know there's an overheating problem which I had working on a 2 gig machine. I upgraded to 4 gig and now the fans stopped working again ; ( Any help would be appreciated !

Does the fan ever start when you do a hard boot?

I know that my acer fan stops when I go into standby and come out of it.

It starts , but when Ubuntu gets going, it stops again. I pulled the 4 gigs out, put the 2 in..and the fans work again... must be the 4 gig or something !
