with 8.10 and 8.04.1 on an external HDD to test here is what I have found so far

+
Dell Ubuntu loads more quickly and has a neat full screen [super AKA window button]
-
does not deal as well with compiz setting manager and the medibunti.org setup does NOT load [no rental DVDs]

+
Regular 8.10 sound works after adding the one line of code
Medibuntu.org codec install works
-
slightly longer boot [this may be the external drive.]
distros before 8.04.1 don't work.

any other testers care to add theit observations????

ive heard people say wifi on dellbuntu was slow connecting, etc...

how does it compare to vanilla 8.10?

edit: i guess the way you would test this is by going to some random hotspot and just timing how long it takes to enable wireless then connect on both a few times each.

I did not notice any difference.
my wifi hub is only a few feet away and little trafficed.
an unknown wifi could have other variables too
+
all the compiz effects and medibuntu.org goodies!
with 8.10 VLC's controls pop up semi transparent when in full screen and the pointer is moved.
-
slightly bigger footprint in the 16G flash hdd

I once put win 95 on a [too small for install] Mb Hdd.
formated to fat 16 /compressed/loaded/then uncompressed.

I've been fooling with both the Dell Ubuntu 8.04.1 and stock Ubuntu 8.10, each for a few days now. Here's how I rate things:

Dell Ubuntu +: faster bootup, all hardware "just works."

Dell Ubuntu -: slow wifi connect time (15-20 secs.), poky Dell launcher, limited to LPIA-specific software and 1 GB of RAM unless you want to fool with your system, no updates or patches of any kind in months.

Intrepid +: abundant software and updates, updated kernel, 2 GB RAM possible, more normal wifi connect time, OS seems just as zippy as Dell Ubuntu (at least to me), more attractive Ubuntu Netbook Remix launcher (if you want it).

Intrepid -: slightly longer bootup (about 10 secs. longer), suspend/resume is flaky (and breaks my Bluetooth mouse connection), audio broken (but easily fixed).

After installing Intrepid, I've had no issues with the Mini's card reader, webcam, wifi, or bluetooth (other that the mouse thing, which is already noted as a bug in Launchpad). For me, the extra RAM, security updates and patches, and ease of installing other software that is not yet LPIA-ready (e.g., Picasa, Skype, etc.) led me to pick Intrepid over Dell Ubuntu/Hardy.

Agreed.
Not to mention, the DEll-branded Ubuntu included the nasty Yahoo toolbar on the rebranded Firefox. I hate that shovelware on Windows, and even moreso on Linux. Yes, I know its removeable, but still...

Also I was not able to dual boot dell ubuntu and xp because the dell is [and the restore is also] a primary active partition
possibly the same for net book remix

where as 8.04.1 and 8.10 when loaded after xp [primary active] to unpartitioned space load to an extended partition

[xp needed only for quickbooks.]

+1 on the reviled bloat ware garbage

Try installing maximus for the full screen feature. Not sure about mapping it to the super key though.
