howdy,
tried google, but im not sure what search strings to use so im having a hard time :)
when i switch between the 'dell desktop' and 'classic desktop', it seems to forget any extra icons or changes i make to the 'classic desktop' panel.
the same applies to the 'dell desktop' - when i go 'classic' and come back, all my changes to 'dell desktop' have been forgotten.
edit: im not totally new to ubuntu btw, but see sig ;)

Sounds like a bug to me, this is the first that I've heard anything related to this. Seems most people are keeping either the default display or switching to desktop mode permanently.
Perhaps file it as a bug in launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-mini)?

good call, yakker.yak.
bug report filed here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-mini/+bug/302611).
i guess speak up if you are experiences this, either here or at launchpad, so we can see how widespread this is.
also please speak up if you have a dell mini 9 with ubuntu preinstalled and you are not experiencing this.
(maybe it was only one batch of mini 9's are affected, etc)

I accidentally deleted Rhythmbox when I was trying to get it to play an audio CD - even when I saw that it was doing something I didn't intend I couldn't get it to stop deleting the program. Now I don't know if I should go ahead and reload the entire Ubuntu OS, or to just reinstall Rhythmbox - does dell use a special version with their mini 9s ( when I was searching around I didn't see version 8.04.1). I don't think that dell supports Ubuntu directly (so here I am)
I think I am really enjoy getting to know and work with Ubuntu; a friend has been trying to get me into Linux for some time - I am starting to ask him questions too.
Thank you, Gordon

gjhoffman:
sudo apt-get install rhythmbox
or, go to 'add/remove programs' and type stuff in, look around, etc.
the stuff you get from apt-get and add/remove will include any custom modifications dell made to any of that software ;)
