Sorry for my unofficial terminology, I really have no clue what I'm doing here (my friend switched me to linux and he'll be the one attempting to understand any responses). I figured this seemed serious enough to report.
I was doing nothing but waiting for a video to load and playing solitare, when suddenly my mouse stopped responding. Then my screen went black. It kept switching between two screens: One that looked like it was turning off and was mostly black with some very dull green horizontal streaks (I see this every time the computer is about to turn off); and one that looked like it was turning on and was dark navy with a crosshairs X-shaped cursor (I see this right after the Ubuntu logo displays as it turns on). Eventually I just held the on/off button until it turned off, and when I turned it back on it it was normal.
...wha?
If it helps, I am using an Inspiron B130.

keep an eye on it, if it keeps acting up then we need more info, machine specs? vid card, memory, processor, power supply, speed?

if nvidia or ati is the driver installed right? or is this the generic vid driver that installs by default?

is this a new machine, custom built, laptop?

if nvidia card look here,

if ati or others look for info for those or try envy.

Hello,

Dont know if this is still relevant on the newer ubuntu versions but i had problems with my dell 130 resolution,
Have a look at my fixes here:
