...I'm using an open-source driver, when in the past I have used the restricted driver (as part of the dell cd's). It's causing problems with playing video games, I get black screens after a brief view of the text and pictures. I've checked everything, then found out this is a video driver issue. Please help!! Is there a restricted video driver for the video card in Intrepid?

Do you have the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver?

How do I check that? I do know I'm not running the previously restricted drivers for the bugger under Hardy. Since the upgrade to Intrepid, it's all gone to hell, at least my ability to play any games. ](*,)

Whoa, SERIOUSLY sorry about the lateness of my reply: I had my schedule at work go from hourly to salary and my life disappeared.
GUI method is to type that name in the search box for synaptic.
Or CLI:
<code>
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
</code>
I am newly available again, if you still need help. (my own issues were solved when I backed up my data to a dvd and used the .iso from dell for my 1420n for 9.04)
