I was interested to read about the new initiative, but I am confused; wasn’t this what the Forum/wiki delta was meant to do?

I get concerned about dilution of effort to keep a number of similar things going. I felt the same about kubuntuforums as that still seems like a diffusion of effort by the people helping and confusing for those looking for help. If you have a simple place to look then this is much easier; especially for those who are coming blinking into the light from windows. They need to have someone to trust and to also begin good habits.

If there already is somewhere people can look for this information doesn’t it make more sense to develop that? I don’t want to preach or have these points taken as any moral stance. It just seems sensible for information to be as easily available as possible and for those working on this not to have spend energy on infrastructure that they would rather spend on content.

I guess that there is a backstory to this; judging by Arnieboys sig this might have something to do with the kerfuffle over the ubuntuguide and disagreements I clearly do not know about.

Is this a sign of fragmentation or am I worried about nothing?

Worried about nothing.

The Doc is just as it is, a place to store documentation gathered from the forums. HOWTOs or otherwise.

Thanks for the quick response.

Are you able to satisfy my curiosity about why you are doing it his way and not using the delta?

My biggest pre-ubuntu linux (and windows) problem was always finding information to dig me out of holes. I would be very distressed if this happened in the ubuntu universe as well.

I think a large portion of the issue over the Doc vs Official Wiki is that some find the organization of the Official Wiki to be difficult to sift through, at least thats the comment I get from a number of the users I communicate with. The Doc itself may be easier to go through and find information specific , or we are trying hard to make it that way as such.

Does that answer your question?
