How to for intrepid wired network

All of them I find are for wireless.

I'm connected to the internet, but I can't figure out how to get a home network set up.
I would really appreciate any help.

What would you like from your network, and what kind of machines are on it? Filesharing with Windows machines will (most likely) require Samba (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba). If you want to run a local web page, a LAMP-type setup will help.

Too bad all our problems aren't tthis easy.

could you elaborate on what exactly the problem is??are you able to ping other networked machines?if they are all connected to the same wifi router and if they all have internet access , that should be possible
