Hi everyone, just a quick post to say hello, I'm a long-time Linux user from South Africa who has just made the switch to Ubuntu (the Kubuntu flavour ;)) and enjoying it very much so far.
I operate a development cluster computer at a mining and metallurgy research firm, which we use to do advanced computer modelling and visualisation work, and it's been happily running Ubuntu for the last six months or so. I've also installed it dual-boot on my HP laptop without a hitch.
We are a predominantly Windows environment (all servers, and probably 95% of clients) here unfortunately, so a big part of the challenge for me has been learning about Windows/Linux interoperability on the Linux client side. The Internet, and most recently this forum, has been an invaluable source of information - thanks! I now have the cluster reasonably well integrated into our corporate network, and it never fails to turn a few heads and initiate interesting discussions when people walk into my office and say "Hey, that doesn't look like Windows..."
Cheers,
kc
