ok im super new to all this like 1 day if that i need to know the sudo codeing to git my exsternal HD that is in ntfs format to work on my system for work it has all my data on it plezzz help this is like a 911 thing and im so lost:confused:](*,)](*,)

If you just need to plug it in sometimes, it should work automatically. In ubuntu, when you plug it in, an icon should show up on the desktop and it should also show up in the left panel in nautilus (the file browser)

tenfoot,

Try this out. Go to your Gnome menu: Applications>Accessories>Terminal (this should open a dos-type of interface in linux called a terminal session).

Then, type in "lsusb" and see if your usb external drive is recognized and then mounted (it might take a few seconds).

You can close the Terminal session by typing "exit", and then pressing enter. If this works, you can also add the terminal icon to you launch menu for future use.
